How It Works

Test Methodology

FebriDx uses a lateral flow immunoassay to simultaneously measure two key biomarkers from a single fingerstick blood sample. MxA (Myxovirus resistance protein A) is a highly specific intracellular protein induced by viral infections. CRP (C-Reactive Protein) is an acute-phase protein elevated in bacterial infections. Together, these two markers provide a clear bacterial vs. viral differentiation at the point of care.

MxA

Viral Marker

MxA Biomarker

Myxovirus resistance protein A — a highly specific intracellular protein induced exclusively by viral infections. Elevated MxA indicates active viral infection with high specificity.

CRP

Bacterial Marker

CRP Biomarker

C-Reactive Protein — an acute-phase protein produced by the liver in response to bacterial infection and inflammation. Elevated CRP indicates bacterial etiology requiring antibiotic treatment.

Clinical Use

Indications for Use

FebriDx is indicated for use in adult patients presenting with acute febrile respiratory illness to aid in the differentiation of bacterial from viral infection.

Emergency Departments

Rapid triage of febrile patients to guide antibiotic prescribing and reduce unnecessary admissions.

Urgent Care Centers

Point-of-care differentiation without lab send-out, enabling same-visit treatment decisions.

Physician Offices

CLIA-waived status allows use in any physician office without specialized lab certification.

Hospital Inpatient

Bedside testing to support antimicrobial stewardship programs and reduce broad-spectrum antibiotic use.
